Buyer (Engineering)

Our client involved in the Agricultural sector are looking for a Buyer to oversee and managing all sourcing requirements and selection of best suppliers. Below is the detailed job description;

Job Purpose:

The Buyer will develop and using fruitful procurement and sourcing strategies. The buyer will be involved in purchases of engineering equipment, spare parts equipment and mechanical devices. The Buyer will also be responsible for sourcing for best suppliers and prices in the southern region of Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an efficient and accurate system for monitoring all open purchase orders
  • Liaises with line mangers (Engineers) to determine their product and service needs
  • Have meetings with engineers to understand the specific parameters you need work with on procuring engineering equipment
  • Work closely with finance to ensure orders fit into company budget requirements.
  • Work with the inventory management team to ensure that all deliveries are in line with purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products / spare part
  • Assist the Operations Manager with maintaining proper inventory levels of materials used on a regular basis
  • Monitors business trends and product availability to pay the best price for company goods without sacrificing quality or delivery times
  • Manage relationships in the region with suppliers to negotiate the best prices for company
  • Identifies and researches potential new suppliers
  • Researches new products and services to meet company’s goals
  • Assesses total costs of company purchases
  • In collaboration with the Stores department develop and implement strategies for procuring, storing, and distributing spare parts and maintaining stock levels
  • Make periodic proposals to engineers / managers on the types of materials available.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be conversant with Pastel Evolution or any most used package
  • Must be well networked with genuine and reliable suppliers
  • Knowledge on procurement / sourcing of engineering/agriculture equipment will be a plus
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Must be a member of CIPS and ZIPS

Operations Manager (Agricultural Engineering)

Our client involved in Agricultural Engineering are looking for an Operations Manager to oversee the operations of all departments and ensure that total customer satisfaction is achieved all the time. Below is the detailed job description;

Job Purpose:

The Operations Manager will act as the link between clients/ engineers/ technical managers who are requiring spares and the spares sales department. This link needs to be efficient to ensure that clients/ engineers/ technical managers have their orders processed and sent out to the appropriate location in the shortest, most efficient manner. The operations manager will also be responsible for generating close relationships with all field staff and helping them with all personal issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the monthly meetings (to be held on the Monday after every pay weekend) between management and the works committee and acting on any issues arising from these meetings as well as ensuring the continuous flow of information between management and the field workers.
  • Co-ordinating, with help from the technical manager, as well as input from the engineers; which pivot teams/ welders/ electricians need to go to which scheme, for how long and when.
  • Invoicing of all job cards relating to repairs and services within 48hours of the technicians returning from the farm. Ensuring that all spares used during repairs and services leave the workshop on a picking slip and that all items not used in the job are returned to stores through the correct procedure.
  • Monitoring and training of security guards (specifically that they check all spares leave the premises with the correct paperwork) as well as all security apparatus around the workshop. Ensuring that the workshop is fully locked up at the end of every day prior to going home.
  • Working with the HR manager to put together a succinct time sheet documenting; days worked, over time, travel time, Saturdays, Sundays, Public holidays, pump and tower bonuses. Making sure time sheets are handed in weekly by all field/ work shop staff and that they are signed off as correct by the appropriate supervisor of that task. Making sure that as high a percentage as possible of all technician’s time and km’s travelled is being charged out to either a project or a client.
  • Managing the day to day running of the workshop and the workshop staff.
  • Receiving of broken pumps/ gearboxes etc. and ensuring their quick repair and correct invoicing. Informing the clients their goods are ready for collection.
  • Monitoring of the welding bay and ensuring that all work designated by the engineers or the sales office is carried out correctly and on time with a completed job card.
  • Ensuring that all workers around the w/ shop are tasked correctly in the morning and are working throughout the day
  • Ensuring that the general appearance of the buildings (both inside and out) and garden are kept up to standard and are looking neat and tidy at all times

  • Solid Irrigation project  knowledge will be a plus
  • Must have proven experience on the use GPS trackers
  • Must have experience Admin/HR work (Mostly on labour matters)
  • Have good communication skills
  • Must be reliable and trust –worthy
  • Must be conversant with Pastel Evolution or any most used package
  • Parts knowledge in irrigation equipment will be a plus.
  • Must be a member of relevant professional body

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and administers various human resources plan and procedures for all company personnel.
  • Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.

Qualification:
